Student Asks Professor to Faculty Dinner “Just As Friends”

Richardson was only one of dozens of students whom invited professors will forget in a year or two.

CAMBRIDGE, MA--In an occurrence that sources are describing as even more awkward than his recent request for an extension 9 hours before a paper was due, local undergraduate Noah Richardson '18 is reported to have asked his SLS 20 professor, Dr. Daniel Gilbert, to the Dunster House Faculty Dinner "just, like, as friends."

"Hey, I mean, like, I know this is super random, and, like, if you're not interested, I totally get it, but I guess I really just enjoy your company..." said the 19-year-old History and Literature concentrator, who, after two and a half minutes of platitudes and references to how "that lecture on emotions" was "ok, um, I guess, not that your other lectures are ever bad, obviously."

Richardson concluded that "obviously it's no pressure but I think it would be super fun and I could probably get us into a super cool afterparty at my bro [Diebold Professor of Indo-European Linguistics and Philology Dr.] Jay [Jasanoff]'s place," a statement that was met by 8 seconds of silence followed by a mumbled "sure" from the author of Stumbling on Happiness.

Sources have since confirmed that, while the two remain painfully awkward to watch, it was at least cute that Richardson's crippling anxiety matched so well with Gilbert's tie.
